Once Upon a Time: We Are Both

Loved this episode!  I’m so happy that the writers are giving us more of Regina’s backstory, showing us the events/choices that led her to become the Evil Queen.  Now we know why she just didn’t run away – she tried, but Mommie Dearest boobytrapped the surrounding area.  We also know that Regina’s hatred of Snow took some time to build – she struggled against it at first.

What’s new is that there’s some mysterious relationship between Rumpelstiltskin, Cora and Regina.  He apparently taught Cora everything she knew but why?  Is Cora the wife who left him?  Is she just an evil colleague?  What’s the deal with him holding Regina as a baby?  Did he steal her for Cora?

Where did Cora go when Regina pushed her through the Looking Glass?  My first guess was and still is Wonderland – I think she’s the Queen of Hearts.  How did she end up in a pit in Maleficient’s corner of Fairy Tale land?  I’m guessing she was hightailing it for safety, just like everyone else left behind, and somewhere along the line did something pit-w0rthy.  Will Snow recognize her and remember what she did?  If so, will Cora convince her that Regina is the greater evil and they should work together?

Pinocchio’s alive?  Will he regain his hotness or will he remain a giant puppet until Emma returns?  Where did he go?  Off to find some fairy dust?  Drink some magical water?  Meet up with the guy from episode 1?  If that guy was Bael, how old is he?  I’m really confused about time.  Assuming Rumpel was the Dark One when Regina was just a baby, Bael would be older than her – and he wouldn’t have been magically frozen in time in Storybrooke.  Who else could he be though?  Henry’s dad, maybe?  Hopefully we get to meet both this season.

Where was Belle?  We saw plenty of Rumpel but where’s the plucky girl who thinks she can keep his evilness in check?

Regina was awesome in this episode.  Not only do I love the flashbacks which show that her transition to evil was gradual, but I also love that her love for Henry may yet redeem her.  Love Regina!!!

One last question:  Rumpel created the curse so how did he not know that he wouldn’t be able to leave Storybrooke, even after the curse was broken?  Just an unforeseen cost of magic?  By the way, what would have happened to someone who left town before the curse was broken?  Would they have remembered who they really were but not been able to reenter the town?  Is the guy from episode 1 a former Storybrooke resident???

Favorite quotes from this episode:

Doctor Whale to Prince Charming:  “Are they still nuns, or can they, you know, date?”

Regina to Prince Charming:  “I will not listen to childcare lectures from a man who put his daughter in a box and shipped her to Maine.”

Maybe Cora is the woman who was imprisoned by a greedy king, who promised to marry her if she spun a whole large room full of straw, into gold. Cora could be the baby that the woman promised to give to Rumplestiltskin, thus the idea that Regina must do whatever Rump tells her to do. My DISH coworker loves the show too and we have been speculating about Mr. Gold’s confusion as well. Honestly, I wouldn’t have even thought about watching if I hadn’t seen it on my PrimeTime Anytime recordings yesterday, but now I watch a lot of new and old shows I dropped. Since the major networks automatically record at night, I have a plethora of choices.

I’ve been hoping they would work in the story about spinning straw into gold – I can see Cora fitting into this storyline. Time will tell!
