Somewhere Beneath Those Waves by Sarah Monette

A non-themed collection of Sarah Monette‘s best short fiction, Somewhere Beneath Those Waves offers alternative histories, fairy tales, and spooky stories.  Monette favors outsiders; her characters are typically awkward, haunted, lonely.  It’s a solid collection and, as a bonus, she offers insight into the inspiration for the pieces offered .

My personal favorites from the collection are as follows:

  • Amante Doree
  • Somewhere Beneath Those Waves Was Her Home
  • Three Letters from the Queen of Elflands
  • Seance at Chisholm End
