84 Charing Cross Road by Helene Hanff

Loved this!!!  Helene Hanff, a writer living in Manhatten, first contacts London bookseller Frank Doel in her quest to find nice secondhand copies of out-of-print books.  A business correspondence  soon turns into a friendship spanning twenty-some years.   The two never met but their letters to one another are playful and charming.  Highly recommended!  (And many thanks to Tim for recommending it to me!)
